Residence Complexes Named for People

Pammel Court ‑‑ Surplus World War II military housing structures make up this student apartment complex. The first units were erected in 1946 along the north side of Pammel Drive and additional units were erected north of the railroad tracks in 1946 and 1947. Pammel Drive, Pammel Woods and Pammel State Park in Madison County also are named for Louis H. Pammel, a botanist and botany department head who served Iowa State from 1889 to 1931.

Richardson Court Association ‑‑ This residence complex is named in honor of Anna E. Richardson, dean of the Division of Home Economics at Iowa State from 1923 to 1927.

Schilletter Village -- Work on the Schilletter Village apartments was begun in 1973 and additional units were added in 1974, 1975, and 1976.  In 1974 it was named in honor of Julian C. "Shorty" Schilletter, who served Iowa State in various capacities from 1923 to 1972.  Originally a member of the Horticulture Department faculty, Schilleter took over the management of the Memorial Union when Director Harold Pride was called to active duty in World War II.  Upon Pride's return, Schilleter took over the administration of the Department of Residence, serving as Director from 1945 to 1967.
