COACH CLYDE WILLIAMS WITH HIS FIRST IOWA STATE FOOTBALL TEAM, 1907
Clyde Williams, a 1903 graduate of the University of Iowa's School of Dentistry, was Iowa State's football coach from 1907 until 1914, and also served as Iowa State's first athletic director. The old football stadium, which was south of State Gym, was named in his honor.
The 1906 and 1907 teams were considered the Iowa champions because they beat all the Iowa colleges they played during the season. The 1906 team compiled a 9-1 record. The 1907 team went 7-1. In both years, the only loss was to the University of Minnesota.
